ISLAMIC HERITAGE -AL ANDALUS (PRESENT SPAIN)

Al-Andalus (Arabic: الأندلس) was the Arabic name given to those parts of the Iberian Peninsula governed by Muslims, or Moors, at various times in the period between 711 and 1492.  Muslim Spain was multicultural and tolerant; Jews, Christians and Muslims lived side by side.

Stability in Muslim Spain came with the establishment of the Andalusian Umayyad dynasty, which lasted from 756 to 1031. The credit goes to Amir Abd al-Rahman, who founded the Emirate of Cordoba and was able to get the various different Muslim groups who had conquered Spain, to pull together in ruling it.
